Strayer ch. 14
In this chapter I learned about who in Europe conquered who in the Americas. Seeing how they tricked over from the other side of the world and slowly made us a part of them. What kicked this all off was when Christopher columbus was sponsored by the Spanish, this made it possible for him to get to the Americas in the first place. After this time the spanished seemed to control a great part of south and North America. It is a bit easy to see this when we hear South Americans speak Spanish, but they were not the only ones to settle there, the Portuguese also conquered a huge part of South America to what is known today as Brazil. Now why is it that we speak english instead of Spanish if they took up most of the land in the Americas? Well because the British English speaking folk landed in what we know as part of Canada and from there the British bought out the Spanish. Not only were the British in Canada but the French had also landed there and even parts of the US, which I am sure most people had no idea of. The Americas were not the only lands getting conquered and bought off, places like New Zealand and Australia and all those other islands had also been taken over not by the Spanish or English but by the Dutch Empire. All this conquering was not easy, the conquistadors did not just get the land like magic. For example Hernan Cortes the Spanish conquistador that was fighting the Aztec for the Mexicans Land. It wasn’t all fighting for these conquistadors, since they brought illnesses with them like the Black Death which helped whip out the enemy
